Michael Kors, Ralph Lauren Close New York Fashion Week

It’s no secret that Michael Kors is considered the king of American sportswear, but to see it play out on the runway is as Americana as apple pie. Models strutted down Spring Street Studio’s runway in look after luxurious look that read like a laundry list of sportswear terms; menswear inspired, houndstooth, plaid, camel coats, grey flannel pants. Boring? Not a chance—it’s in the execution and detailing that you see the delight. A cream cableknit seems totally fresh, a navy peacoat sounds like a snore, but you find yourself wanting it. The oxford flats gave the show a no-nonsense edge and the fox furs added to that jetsetter vibe that Kors is known for. What he does like no other is create a woman you want to be who has a life you want to live. Style.com said it best in their review, “Damn he’s good.”

From Michael Kors to the dreamily sculptural Delpozo, the brand from Madrid that has a U.S. flagship in Miami. Chunky handknit dresses, embellished velvet, Little Red Riding Hood skirtsuit,.. they all call to mind the movie, Into the Woods. Josef Font’s fairytale world is fun to watch, but dreams do end and reality takes over. What can ladies with their feet firmly planted in reality wear, Mr Font? The question may be answered by the owners of the directional shop in New York, Kirna Zabete. It’s probably going to be those fleshtoned pleated pants, which could easily be a favorite wardrobe staple when fall comes around.Delpozo Fall 2015

American icon, Ralph Lauren took his traditional slot the morning of the last day of NYFW. He sent out long and lean sweater dressing in mocha tones, accented with fox-tail ponchos, furry gloves, wooly socks worn with suede sandals and ten-gallon hats. Not unlike Michael Kors, Mr. Lauren imbues traditional American sportswear with luxe, low-slung belts, dangle earrings and trapper hats are the accessories that made the show pure Ralph. The drop dead winner? A body grazing lace gown worn with one of those Pharrell-ish hats. Stunning! He also played the menswear card with a tuxedo look that may have been swiped directly from his menswear rack. Kanye West sat in the audience among Mr. Lauren’s family who always sit in the front row with Cheshire smiles of support.
