New York Fashion Week Day 4: Top Shows Of NYFW

Haute Living’s Fashion Editor is going behind-the-scenes to bring you the daily news and trends from New York Fashion Week’s top shows.

Simkahi

This spring, Jonathan Simkhai takes inspiration from photographer Ward Roberts’s Courts Series by taking the photographer’s visionary concept of mixing dream-like pastels in urban city street locales and effortlessly translates them into a whimsical sportswear delight.  In prior seasons Simkhai has been all about glitz and frill, but for his 2018 Spring collection he lovingly treats us to a much softer, ultra-feminine overall theme. This spring we see romantic looks like an egg-shell white satin dress with crochet detailing, along side a brilliant pairing of a blue and white striped cotton eyelet wrap that tops off a handkerchief suede skirt. The collection left us feeling airy and free from any restraint.

Tibi

Tibi is celebrating its 20th year with a nod to the super-mod looks of 1980’s NYC.  In this year’s spring line, designer Amy Smilovic effortlessly incorporates dreamlike pastels such as lilac and soft lemon to the effortless 80’s street style of flowing day dresses. We are also shown updates to the 80’s career woman power suit by switching out the typically drab mono-color tones with fresh color options like a gray patterned jacket and soft neutral colored pants, then topping the look off with a transparent PVC corset. This collection truly marks a milestone for TibiSmilovic showcases her 2018 Spring collection with an almost newfound sense of confidence, ease and sophistication about her updated looks, yet she remains true to Tibi’s roots of effortless chic.

Siriano SS18 New York Fashion Week september 2017

Watching Christian Siriano’s Spring 2018 collection felt as though we were being transported into a romantic and beautiful psychedelic dream. By using bold colors like zesty lime green and electric blue, he shows us how a collection can be both playful and impactful. The collection’s call-outs definitely do not shy away from making a bold statement – we see everything from oversized contrasting puffy shoulders colored in with pastel bright fuchsia to voluminous sweeping ball gowns in striking color combinations with tulle accenting.  We can expect to see Siriano’s larger-than-life collection sweeping the red carpets come this year’s awards season.
