Two months after the tragic shooting, the Las Vegas community continues to find itself in pivotal civic engagement moments since. Latterly, the Vegas Strong Benefit Concert.
Complete sadness, anger, worry, frustration, and confusion haunted the city of Las Vegas on Sunday, Oct. 1 when attendees at the country festival Route 91 were senselessly shot by a gunman staying at a penthouse suite at The Mandalay Bay.
But on December 2, the largest benefit concert in Nevada’s history took place at the T-Mobile Arena. It honored those very same lives lost and affected. Celebrities gathered to raise money benefiting the Las Vegas Victims Fund created by Steve Sisolak, chairman of the Clark County Commission.

The 12,000 attendees, who sold out the show, were introduced to the evening’s performers and special guests by Carrot Top who commenced the evening. The comedian later introduced messages from Vegas Golden Knights players who shared their Las Vegas pride and support.

In case people were wondering if Las Vegas-native celebrities were in attendance at the Vegas Strong Benefit Concert, the answer is yes. Thanking the city’s first responders was Las Vegas’ own and Washington Nationals 2015 National League MVP baseball player Bryce Harper. He applauded the efforts of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department and hospital staff.

Additional Las Vegas-natives at the Vegas Strong Benefit Concert was The Killers and 29-time NASCAR Cup Series winner, Kurt Busch, who introduced Boyz II Men, headliners at The Mirage.

Jay Leno was also in attendance delivering a series of jokes that kept the crowd laughing and entertained.

Amid the many celebrities who presented themselves were Imagine Dragons, the Las Vegas-based rock band.

“Today, more than ever, I am proud to be from this city. Music shows that there is nothing that should divide us. Tonight, we are one. We are Vegas Strong,” said Imagine Dragons lead singer Dan Reynolds.

A video of Route 91 headliner and Las Vegas Shooting survivor Jason Aldean was displayed. The country singer gave his good wishes and positive thoughts to the audience. Celine Dion’s address to her concert attendees two days after the shooting was displayed at the benefit. The last of celebrities to send their well-wishes and support via video was Elton John.

Additionally, resident celebrities and performers like illusionist David Copperfield, George Strait, Blue Man Group, Cirque du Soleil’s Mystère, Penn & Teller, and Wayne Newton attended in support of the battle born and unbreakable community of Las Vegas.
