There’s nothing less romantic on Valentine’s Day than doing the dishes in a cramped apartment. The better plan is to take your special someone out for a night on the town and a great dinner at one of the city’s best restaurants. Chefs are pulling out all the stops this Valentine’s Day with carefully crafted menus. Here are some of our favorites to celebrate love in New York City.
Ocean Prime
For anyone looking to start the evening with a cocktail as “smokin’” as their date, Ocean Prime is offering a perfect drink with the Berries and Bubbles. The signature dish on the menu will be the heavenly rosé poached arctic char with baby beets, king crab salad, and rosé butter.
Legasea
Break the ice in a conversation by breaking some crab claws at this luxe seafood restaurant. Each dish features the freshest catch with chocolate dessert options to top the meal off, like black forest tartufo. It’s also right near some of Midtown’s best parties to dance the night away in the club after dinner.
Chumley’s
While this downtown restaurant may have a history as the go-to watering hole for off-duty firefighters, its newly refurbished look blends sophistication with vintage charm to give diners a cozy vibe. The restaurant is also offering a three course pre-set menu for $95.
Le Coq Rico
This French restaurant is planning a massive, five-course, pre-fixed menu centered on stuffed brune landaise whole roasted chicken, for $98 per person. The bistro is known for its use of poultry in dishes, and follows through with that reputation for its Valentine’s Day offerings. Guests will start with an amuse bouche of poultry and ginger consommé and poached duck liver, followed by a slow cooked duck egg, baby spinach, and poultry broth. Dining at Le Coq Rico is always a great experience, but with five courses of Chef Antoine Westermann’s legendary cooking, its sure to be a night that diners will never forget.
The Pool Lounge
The Pool Lounge, along with its sister restaurant The Grill and The Pool, represent an important landmark of NYC dining history, being set in the old Four Seasons location. Today, they are considered the most coveted reservations in the city. For everything from romantic cocktails to aphrodisiacal raw bar selections, a reservation at The Pool Lounge is a great way to start Valentine’s Day on the right note. Small plates by Chef Rich Torrisi like the Ribbons of Foie Gras, shaved thin and arranged like a carnation, or indulgent caviar options, choosing between trout roe, sea urchin, baeri, and golden ossetra, make for a decadent meal that’s sure to be remembered fondly.
SUGARCANE raw bar grill
This Brooklyn restaurant is the perfect spot for sharing small plates with a date. The menu is a curated selection of different cuisines from crudos and sushi options to pig ear pad thai. The must-have item on the menu though is the duck and waffle, a recipe from the famed London restaurant. After dinner, take a romantic walk along the riverfront.
Bodega Negra
For Valentine’s Day only, the restaurant’s iconic Don Huevo dessert will be colored pink.
