Celtics Guard Marcus Smart Tells Us Why He Loves Shooting Hoops In Boston

Despite a recent right thumb injury, Marcus Smart has been all smiles about hosting his second annual bowling bash next week. Previously scheduled for tonight but postponed until next Monday due to today’s blizzard conditions, the Boston Celtics guard will be on hand to knock down some pins in haute style for his YounGameChanger Foundation at Kings Seaport. The Texas native will be joined by other notable athletes and VIPs at the celebrity bowling tournament where guests will be feted with food, a cocktail reception, a silent auction and meet-and-greet opportunities.

As the youngest of four boys, Smart lost his oldest brother (Todd) to cancer in 2004. Today, the youngest brother’s life is focused on an unwavering purpose and inspirational passion both on and off the court. His YounGameChanger Foundation provides families with seriously and chronically ill children with encouragement and life-changing experiences as Smart acts as a voice of motivation, empowerment and encouragement to inner city young athletes to be game changers off the court or field.

We caught up recently with Smart to discuss his YounGameChanger Foundation and what he loves most about playing in Boston.

How did the opportunity for a basketball player come up to host a bowling bash?

It was a fun way to raise money, and I love bowling.

Tell us about some of the most memorable experiences you have had through the YounGameChanger Foundation.

Whenever I visit kids and put smiles on their faces, it’s memorable, especially at Boston Children’s Hospital.
