The Dalmore Will Release A $12,500 Single Malt In April

On April 1, The Dalmore will release a whisky that’s definitely not a joking matter—a limited run, glorious, 45-year single malt valued at a staggering $12,500 per bottle.

The whisky is first matured in American white oak ex-bourbon casks and then transferred into two different Vintage Graham’s Port Colheita pipes—dating from 1961 and 1963—to create layers of flavor. For its final flourish, the whisky was married together in first fill American white oak ex-bourbon casks.

Purposefully retained at 40% ABV, The Dalmore 45 features exquisite flavors of red berries, soft licorice, crushed hazelnuts, bitter chocolate and Manuka honey, followed by the sweet flavors of sticky toffee pudding, Bramley apples and juicy dates. On the nose, expect to find sweet aromas such as molasses, toffee, treacle cake, Sanguinello blood oranges, and almonds.

Presented in a decanter designed by artisans of the renowned French crystal house Baccarat, the hand-blown decanters are adorned with The Dalmore’s iconic 12 point Royal Stag emblem, as produced by Royal Warrant Holders Hamilton & Inches. This Royal Stag is a symbol of the brand’s promise to remain at the pinnacle of single malt.

Only 500 bottles of The Dalmore 45 will be released globally this year. The 45 follows 2017’s release of The Dalmore 40 and 2016’s release of The Dalmore 35, reinforcing The Dalmore’s reputation for bottling some of the oldest and rarest stocks in the whisky category.

Master Distiller Richard Paterson even goes so far as to say, “By personally selecting the very finest American white oak ex-bourbon casks and Port Colheita Pipes from 1961 and 1963, I have been able to create a truly unique expression which is indulgent and smooth with a vibrant and lively flavor profile. It takes time, dedication and passion to create an expression like The Dalmore 45 and age has gracefully matured this distinguished spirit to make it one of The Dalmore’s greatest aged spirits. This is a very special whisky, which I would describe as flawless perfection.”
