Craft cocktails, juicy sliders, crispy wings, gooey burgers, a daily cheese board and even gluten-free, vegan and vegetarian offerings, Lower Mills Tavern is taking comfort fare to a haute new level. The cozy neighborhood restaurant opened nearly two years ago and quickly attracted a cult following. We recommend getting started with a craft cocktail like The Toddy made with bourbon, maple simple, apple cider and lemon, a glass of chilled pinot grigio or a local draft microbrew.

On the night we visited, starters included pulled pork sliders, an enormous plate of nachos, sweet potato falafel and Szechuan fried calamari (which sounded interesting). We couldn’t get enough of the crispy Vietnamese fried wings with peanut sauce, sesame seeds and cilantro.
Wood stone pizzas here are topped with everything from asparagus, tomato, mozzarella, olive oil, and sea salt to roasted garlic, peas, buratta, pepperoni and mushroom. Creativity is certainly not lacking when it comes to the menus, which change with the season and may include steak tips with cheddar and scallion mashed potatoes, clam and shrimp linguine and salmon with braised Swiss chard.

For main events, the enormously juicy LMT burger is a must served with a side of golden truffle fries as well as the spicy vegan noodle dish. Executive Chef Colton Coburn-Wood heads up the team at this scratch kitchen that offers a weekend brunch Saturdays and Sundays from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. We didn’t save room for dessert, which included ice cream from the nearby Ice Creamsmith and Mom’s chocolate triple layer cake served with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
Be sure to keep an eye out for the Irish sessions held here every Tuesday night from 8 to 10 p.m. Bring a fiddle or just come by for a listen and a perfectly poured pint.
