That depends on many factors, with saline implants some implant manufacturers have estimated the life expectancy of saline-filled implants to be between 10-12 years, there are many patients who have had saline implants in place for over 20-30 years without any problems. Silicone implants can also last long beyond 10 years especially if you've received new generation implants manufactured within the last 10 years.

HB: What are some signs patients should look for to know when it is time to replace their breast implants?

Patients usually want to change due to breast implant size adjustment - symmetry correction - rupture - and capsular contracture, which is an uncommon complication of breast augmentation where a hardened capsule around the implant is formed. While the exact cause of capsular contracture is unknown, it is generally thought to be the body’s response to the presence of certain bacteria in the implant pocket. Patient care is a top priority. We make sure every step of the process remains as sterile as possible by implementing the most effective technology available and maintaining a very strict sterilization protocol. Our safety obsession for our patients is why our facility is fully accredited and remains a special experience when it comes to patient care.

That can depend on why a patient is replacing tier implants. The breast implant replacement procedure is similar to the initial breast implant surgery, and very simple if it's only for a change of size. If you are having replacement surgery because of a complication/revision we would have different challenges. I would potentially have to remove any potential scar tissue, redefine the pocket, and carefully set the new implants. My background in breast reconstruction as a board-certified general surgeon is a big reason why I excel at this procedure.

HB: What is recovery like?

While recovery depends on the patient and specifics of the procedure, many women find the healing process less painful than their original surgery. The average patient is back to work within 3 days if the job does not require any strenuous activity or heavy lifting.
