Avril Lavigne Proves That Pop-Punk Isn’t Dead As She Continues To Rock Her Skater Girl Style

We may have left the punk rock style behind in the early 2000s, but Avril Lavigne definitely did not. Avril’s heavy smoky eye and colored extensions paired with her long, dirty-blonde hair appear to have remained her staple look over the years. Has anyone seen a picture of her without a smoky eye? Lavigne recently spoke with Allure to discuss the release of her seventh album, Love Sux, and open up about her makeup looks that have become synonymous with her name and music. The new music stays true to the artist’s pop-rock style that propelled her career. She tells Allure, “This record is a reflection of what I’ve loved about music. I’ve been diverse throughout the years, but I was always drawn towards having guitar-driven songs.”

All in the Eyes

Lavigne reveals that the dark smoky eye she wears religiously has been her preferred look for quite a while. And little has changed in terms of the products she uses to accomplish it. MAC’s Eye Kohl Smolder Liner was her product of choice then back in 2002 and is one that she still keeps in her makeup routine today. After 20 years of doing her own smoky eye, Avril knows exactly what she likes and doesn’t have the patience to let others help.

Lavigne explains in her interview with Allure, “No one can do it right. Plus, I can’t sit in a chair for an hour while someone’s doing my makeup. It drives me nuts, especially when I can do my smokey eye in two minutes.” The style isn't as easy to replicate as it may appear; Avril says it is essential to use other tones like brown and gray to round out the look and make smudging easier. She uses the black liner to give the look a solid shape and go over her lower lash line to enhance the effortless smudge look

Lavigne’s Luscious Locks

A lot of look goes into Avril’s classic hairstyle as well. Despite her constant pin-straight styling, the singer admits she has naturally curly hair. Her constant use of heat-styling tools has left the star with damaged hair that she tries to protect by minimizing how frequently she washes it. That, along with the Moroccanoil Treatment, and a leave-in conditioner and heat protectant pretty much round out her hair routine.

Ageless Avril

It’s a wonder that Avril’s face has refused to use over the years in spite of her demanding work schedule and heavy makeup. Surprisingly, there doesn’t seem to be any special step in her cleansing routine. On days when she wears heavy makeup, Avril wipes her eyes using Young Living Savvy Minerals Makeup Wipes. Then she washes her face with Dermalogica’s Daily Microfoliant followed by their Active Moist moisturizer.
