Haute Beauty: Are clear aligners more effective than traditional braces?

Dr. Singh: In general, clear aligners work faster than metal braces. Dr. Singh can treat almost all types of dental issues with aligners but there are some exceptions. In some cases of severe bite issues or overcrowding, metal braces may be necessary. Ultimately, the success of clear aligners treatment depends on patient cooperation. Patients need to wear their aligners diligently to see the results.

HB: Who is the right candidate for clear aligners?

DS: Clear aligners are the right choice for people facing mild to moderate alignment issues. Dr. Singh would recommend aligners for older teens and adults. Anyone who does not wish to have visible metal brackets and wires can opt for this alternative. It is perfect for adults who feel embarrassed about getting metal brackets.

HB: How many hours a day does one need to wear clear aligners to see maximum results?

DS: To see accurate and quick results, you should wear clear aligners throughout the day Patients should wear their aligners for about 22 hours a day. The best way to go about wearing aligners is by only taking them off for eating, brushing, or flossing.

HB: What is the best cleaning process for clear aligners?

DS: Cleaning the aligners is very simple and takes only a few minutes. When brushing your teeth, wash the aligner trays with cold water and brush them with a soft brush and toothpaste. You can also soak your aligners in mouthwash to disinfect them properly.

HB: Have you seen more patients going with clear aligners rather than traditional braces?

DS: Today people give a lot of attention to their appearance and also click a lot of pictures regularly. Clear aligners are comfortable, almost invisible, and allows them to eat everything they want. A lot of patients choose clear aligners as it does not disturb their life in any way.

HB: What if a patient had braces or other dental work before, will clear aligners still work?

DS: In many cases, we use a combination of traditional orthodontics and clear aligners to achieve perfect alignment. Aligners are suitable for anyone who has had braces. As for other dental work, it depends on case to case. Clear aligners generally work well with most cosmetic treatments. For people with restorations such as implant bridges, it may or may not be effective. This can only be determined after a consultation.
