To Maria Sharapova, Christmas truly is the most wonderful time of the year. To celebrate the season, the Manhattan Beach resident popped into her favorite local boutique, Tabula Rasa Essentials, on Sunday to sign autographs and share her premium candy collection, Sugarpova. “My favorite season of the year is the holidays, from homemade goodies and shopping for the perfect presents to the excitement of discovering what’s under the tree on Christmas morning,” she tells us. That said, yes, shopping is one of her favorite ways of getting into the holiday spirit. Here are this tennis pro’s tips on how to truly enjoy the best of the holiday season.

Shop Local. On the West Coast, there’s no shortage of unique shops and boutiques that offer carefully curated treasures and treats.  When in LA, I absolutely love Tabula Rasa Essentials in Manhattan Beach for their creative selection and feel-good atmosphere.

Think Sweet. The holidays are all about decadent indulgences. And this is no time to skimp on using just your average ingredients.  I love searching for good dessert recipes that incorporate 70% cacao dark chocolate for holiday baking – from silky mousses, delicious pies and festive cookies. Good ingredients make all the difference.

Set a Stellar Table. I LOVE to entertain, to cook and to bake.  Nothing gives me greater joy than to have my friends and family gathered around my table.  I happen to think that the tablescape is just as important as the food and drink being served – a beautiful table sets the scene for the mood of the occasion. For tabletop, I’ve been in love with Astier de Villatte from Fetneh Blake in Laguna Beach and favor clean and crisp designs.
