Five-time Olympic Medalist, Nastia Liukin was at the W Boston Monday night to participate in ‘What She Said,” the W Hotel’s initiative celebrating femininity. The initiative, which launched two years ago, has given a platform to high-profile cultural icons like Diane von Furstenberg, Jenna Lyons, Rachel Zoe, LeToya Luckett, Tig Notaro, Cheryl Hines and NIIA.
The program focuses “on providing safe spaces for conversation to drive progress in the gender equality movement by bringing in provocative speakers, cultivating community and sparking conversation that inspires, educates and enlightens.”
In addition to Olympic gymnast Liukin, Boston’s panel featured James Beard award-winning chef Jody Adams, Vega Vitality founder Ashley Hilmes, and Handstand founder Tiffany Hakimianpour.
Through the Nastia Liukin Fund, a charitable fund within the National Gymnastics Foundation, she offers fitness-oriented programs to aid athletes in need of financial assistance to remain or become involved in gymnastics. Today, Liukin encourages young women to turn their dreams into reality and hopes to inspire others to find their passions.
We caught up with Liukin this week to learn how she keeps her workouts motivating and what inspires her to be stronger.
Tell us about this week’s ‘What She Said’ W Boston panel discussion and why you felt it so important to participate.
As a five-time Olympic medalist, what inspires you to be stronger?
When did fitness become so important to you?
How do you keep your workout routine interesting and motivating?
Changing it up!! That’s huge for me. I get very bored easily, doing the same thing over and over. I love workout classes, but don’t like doing the same ones every day. I trained for seven hours a day, six days a week, for MANY years, doing the same thing. Now that I have the flexibility to explore other things, I love being able to do so.
Other upcoming panels will be held at the W Amsterdam on April 12 and the final one at the W New York Times Square May 12 to 20 featuring women in architecture.
