American sports equipment manufacturer, Wilson Sporting Goods, recently made waves in the Chicago real estate industry after it announced the impending opening of its very first retail store and subsequently executing this opening just this month. The retail space Wilson Sporting Goods has chosen is located on the Gold Coast and is widely considered to be prime real estate in the Chicago area. The American sporting brand was able to find this location after a Vineyard Vines store was forced to close its doors due to COVID-19 financial woes.

Glenn Udell recently sat down with Haute Lawyer to share his thoughts regarding Wilson’s first ever store opening right in their own backyard.

“This is an example of how a national sporting goods company is able to penetrate this type of high-end Gold Coast market, that they probably would not have been able to, had it not been for the situation with Vineyard Vines’ departure.”

While no one feels any positive emotions about a company closing the doors to one of its retail spaces, it is a silver lining that a national establishment such as Wilson Sporting Goods has been able to make their mark in their hometown of Chicago.

“It’s refreshing to see a major national retailer take a shot,” Glenn added.

Located on 932 N. Rush Street, the 2,247-square-foot store officially opened its doors on July 16.
