Sarah Jessica Parker and Cindy Chao co-design a brooch

Cindy Chao is an artist whose medium just happens to be rare gems and precious metals. Her lavish “sculptures” are sold at auctions at Sotheby’s and Christie’s to private collectors and exhibited at museums throughout the world. Chao and Sarah Jessica Parker are friends and have a mutual respect for the creative process. They partnered on a dazzling piece called the Black Label Masterpiece “Ballerina Butterfly” brooch which will be sold in October in tandem with the New York City Ballet Gala. The net proceeds from its sale will  benefit the ballet and both ladies will co-chair the event.

The friend’s collaboration began two years ago with Chao and Parker pouring over sketches, wax models, and precious materials resulting in a magnificent form with diamond weight totaling 98.09 carats. Its base is titanium with 18K gold body with precious stones comprised of cushion-cut rough brown diamonds, rough brown diamond slices, and conch pears along with the surrounding 4,650 diamonds and evokes the fluidity and grace of ballet. After a jaunt in Paris during Couture week, and a stint in Asia the masterpiece will come to New York on September 23 for the gala. Soon after it will be auctioned by Christie’s. Art and luxury aficionados and collectors take note!
