Late last week, an elite group of San Franciscans were treated to a private performance by saxophonist, Kenny G, at the Clock Tower. According to Wikipedia, G is the world’s biggest selling instrumental musician with global sales totaling more than 75 million records. He’s also the co-owner of an award-winning gin, Hana, that’s handcrafted on Treasure Island. The evening of great sax and smooth gin featured an exclusive 30-minutes saxophone and jazz show by G. 150 guests sipped on gin cocktails while taking in the stunning penthouse views and nibbling on seasonal bites.

The gin brand is hoping to elevate its profile and the event was its first attempt to broaden its market scope. “It was a joy to introduce our award-winning spirit to an enthusiastic crowd while they watched Kenny G perform a special set in such an intimate and spectacular setting,” Nicholas Chen, the VP of marketing and sales of Hana said. “We look forward to building on this memorable night by introducing our special Kenny G cocktail series to the legendary national and international jazz venues on Kenny’s current tour.”

Master distiller, Will Smith, makes the spirit using a rare vacuum distillation technique. The resulting clear liquor is floral (Hana means flower in Japanese) with strong citrus notes. It’s made with four botanicals (orange peel, lemon peel, juniper berries, and lavender) and comes in an elegant teardrop-shaped bottle. We enjoyed the cocktail so much that we asked Hana’s team to share the recipe. Here’s how you make Kenny G’s gin and tonic.

The Kenny G&T

2 ounces Hana Gin
.75 oounces Solerno Blood Orange Liqueur
Squeeze of orange wedge
Tonic water, for serving

Add ingredients to rocks glass filled with ice, stir, and top with premium tonic water. Enjoy!
