HB: What can be potential causes of hormone imbalances

There are so many things that affect our hormones, including the environment, stress, and our diets.

HB: What are the symptoms of a hormone imbalance?

Hormonal imbalances can range from anything, like from the top of your head to the bottom of your feet.

You can have changes in your body, like hair loss, weight loss or weight gain, constipation, diarrhea, anxiety, depression, Exhaustion, bloat, irritability poor skin texture, adult acne, and headaches. Hormonal imbalance is a common source of skin and body issues for people of all ages and genders.

Any symptoms can be attributed to hormonal imbalance because the hormones are basically how our bodies function.

HB: How do you screen for hormone imbalances?

I do a full integrated questionnaire. It's in-depth and 10 to 15 pages long. I ask you very thorough questions about your life, your lifestyle, your environment, your diet, your connections with others, your past medical history, your exercise; all these different questions that are relevant and that make you, you.

In addition to that, I always look at the lab work and I do pretty extensive work. I start with my favorite hormone panels. Some of my favorite hormone panels are testosterone, vitamin D thyroid. For women estrogen, progesterone, and testosterone. For men, testosterone and estrogen as well. That is how I come up with a plan for each individual.

HB: How do you go about fixing hormone imbalances?

You can control your hormones with lifestyle diet supplements. It's not only formal therapy and supplementing with hormones. There's a lot of different hormones in our bodies, over a hundred. But we know the big ones are estradiol and progesterone, and the thyroid.

It's really about finding the right balance in your body because everyone's different, so going to an integrative practitioner can help to find out what your specific needs are.

I always tell people, your health and wellness is a journey. You can't just expect the doctor to fix it for you. You should be participating in it.

Health is something that you work on every single day. You’ll see your doctor more often but then maybe every three months or every six months or once a year. In the beginning, it's going to be working together and creating your specific routine and wellness plan. Then it's up to you as the patient to do it and wake up every day.

HB: What’s your advice to people who might be intimidated by this?

I get it, it might sound intimidating in the beginning because it's not what we're traditionally used to in terms of approaching our health and wellness. But if you approach it from a different perspective, and look at it like an exciting journey where you're getting educated and you’re in control of your health, it's going to be more empowering.

It's your body, I'm just here to help. I don't have any judgments on your lifestyle or what you do. Ultimately my goal is for you to live a healthier life.
