The Wellness Rituals Teyana Taylor Practices To Stay At Peace

Teyana Taylor might be known for her beautiful singing voice, incredible dance moves, and washboard abs, but did you know this 30-year-old mother of two also boasts a few self-care practices that keep her feeling her best? Perhaps it’s why she remains an unproblematic icon and thrives in the chaos. 

For starters, she keeps her makeup minimal unless she plans on attending an in-person event. “I've had my fair share of criticism for not meeting a certain standard of beauty, so I am very vocal about ignoring that,” Taylor told Shape. “Just be you. Real beauty is within you.” 

With that in mind, she treats her evening showers as a sacred ritual dedicated to skincare. “I bring all my self-care beauty products into the shower knowing that it's the tiny bit of alone time that I'll get,” she said. “I wash my hair and skin, apply a homemade body scrub, and even brush my teeth while listening to soothing music, like Erykah Badu or Sade. Though her mornings seem frantic, Taylor feels it’s necessary to moisturize. In fact, she concocts her own body blend comprised of olive oil, shea butter or coconut oil, and essential oils. “If I'm rushing around in mom mode and skip my lotion, it throws off my energy. I hate the feeling of my skin drying up,” she said. 

Finally, the star relies on mindfulness practices and creative undertakings as an outlet for calmness. “I'm heavy on meditating,” Taylor said. “I've done it throughout my pregnancies and postbirth. It gets me prepared for the day ahead. Even meditating once or twice a week makes a difference.” Additionally, she finds solace in her passion for directing. “Getting behind the lens and collaborating with others is super relaxing."
