Do you have fine lines, wrinkles, and are looking to rejuvenate your skin? Dr. Terry E. Restivo uses the J-Plasma resurfacing technique to lift, tighten and refresh your skin. The non-surgical procedure is designed to give you a natural, younger look. More details regarding the procedure are highlighted below in Haute Beauty's conversation with Haute Beauty expert Dr. Restivo. Here are the key questions answered:

What makes J-Plasma resurfacing unique in comparison to other techniques?

J-Plasma, also called Renuvion, creates a facial rejuvenation that far surpasses any laser results I have ever seen. It is most like CO2 laser resurfacing but has more dramatic results. It will even reduce the hyperpigmentation from previous rounds of CO2 lasers.

How does J-Plasma resurfacing work?

The J-Plasma device combines radiofrequency energy and helium gas to create cold helium plasma. The plasma contains ionized gas which is then converted into steam and applied to the skin. The device turns a portion of the helium into plasma. Helium is a cold gas. In treatment, the leftover helium that is not turned into plasma is used as the cooling agent for the area being resurfaced.

What makes an ideal candidate for this procedure?

Unfortunately, only light-skinned people are candidates as we see hyperpigmentation in people with darker skin tones. To determine if you are a good candidate, we will consult with you to discuss your needs and expectations.

What can it treat?

It treats wrinkling of the skin as well as pigmentation irregularities such as brown spots, age spots, wrinkles, fine lines, and saggy skin. The overall result takes years off one's appearance.

What are common treatment spots?

J-Plasma, also called Renuvion is only used to resurface the face and this is not FDA approved.

Is J-Plasma permanent?

Only one treatment is necessary. Currently, it is too new of technology to know how long it lasts, however, nothing is permanent.

What does the recovery look like?

The recovery can be a bit rough. You can expect to look a little scary for about two weeks. You may also be somewhat red for about 6 months. The redness covers up easily with makeup.
