The striking visual appeal that Willow and Jada Pinkett Smith exude never fails to inspire fans and kickstart trends in the beauty world. And recently, the mother-and-daughter duo took another memorable plunge regarding their exquisite looks: shaving their heads. But the Smith women didn’t act without good reason, as they each explained meaningful incentives for cutting ties with their locks.

For Jada, shaving her head was ultimately a power move. In 2018, the 49-year-old actress revealed on “Red Table Talk” that she was dealing with hair loss. She recounted strands of hair falling out in the shower and tried to discover an underlying cause for her condition — from taking tests to consulting with her doctor — though she couldn’t. “It’s not easy to talk about it, but I am going to talk about it… Taking care of my hair has been a beautiful ritual, as is having the choice to have hair or not,” she said at the time.

Despite her prior insecurity, Pinkett Smith finally reached a point in 2021 to let it all go — literally. After her daughter shared an Instagram photo of the two rocking their hairless styles, Jada reshared the post on her own page and wrote in the caption, “Willow made me do it because it was time to let go BUT … my 50’s are bout to be Divinely lit with this shed❣️😜.” Who knew these two famous relatives could warm our hearts even more with this special moment!

Meanwhile, Willow’s head-shaving moment emerged much more dramatically, but the 20-year-old musician undoubtedly nailed the iconic transformation. To celebrate her new album, “Lately I Feel Everything,” she released a special Facebook concert on July 16 featuring collaborators Avril Lavigne and Travis Barker. During the concert’s final moments, Smith sat down and had her head shaven while playing a solo on the electric guitar, which followed the performance of her hit song, “Whip My Hair.”

The legendary moment — ingrained into our brains forever — takes place around the 46-minute mark of the Facebook video

Like any rising artist, Smith currently feels she’s experiencing a momentous era in her career, and this went hand-in-hand with her on-stage metamorphosis. “I'm thinking about shaving my head during the 'Whip My Hair' performance,” she said in a behind-the-scenes clip, according to People. “This is gonna be the third time in my life shaving my head. I'm always shaving my head at monumental times in my life when things are really changing. And this is definitely one of those moments.”

While we don’t know what the future holds for this soaring rockstar, we don’t expect it to be any less emblematic than what Smith is accomplishing now. Indeed, the future looks bright for the Smith girls.
